8th Annual Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators (ACHEA) Conference

Higher Education and Sustainable Development

Hyatt Regency Hotel
Port of Spain, Trinidad
July 8th – 11th, 2009

The 2009 annual conference of the Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 8 –11, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain

The theme of the conference is Higher Education and Sustainable Development. The United Nations has declared 2005-2015 as the Decade of Sustainable Development and as small islands states with economies and geography that make us vulnerable to global and natural forces, the issue of sustainable development is of critical importance. In times of economic turmoil and crisis such as we are experiencing today, human resource development and transformation are key components in any recovery strategy.
As higher education administrators, we must be “ahead of the curve” on this issue in order to ensure that by 2015, Caribbean nations are well-positioned to take on the challenges of a new economic world order and global issues such as climate change, technology-driven development and the digital divide. The 2009 Conference proposes to explore this topic from two perspectives: our countries are well-positioned to take on the challenges of a new economic world order and of global issues such as climate change, technology-driven development and the digital divide. The 2009 Conference proposes to explore this topic from two perspectives:
